TARGET AUDIENCE:
This Emergency Medical Technician program is designed for participants wishing to gain a Certificate IV in Emergency Medical Response equipping them with advanced medical skills and knowledge. The course is especially suited for first responders, mine rescue, firefighters, road rescue, remote resort dive & tour operations, ship's masters and security personnel.

PREREQUISITES:
Workplace Emergency Care
(Senior First Aid) or equivalent

COMPETENCIES GAINED :

bullet Assess the situation, provide basic care, manage life threatening emergencies (Life Support/CPR)
bullet Utilise management skills to prioritise emergency action and manage road accidents
bullet Identify and manage acute illness.
bullet Prevent, identify, manage burns and exposure to extreme temperatures.
bullet Identify, manage bleeding, wounds, eye injuries.
bullet Identify, manage bites, stings and poisoning.
bullet Identify, manage bone, joint, chest, abdominal injuries.
bullet Orientation to emergency medical care
bullet Preform health assessment practice for application in the emergency medical services system
bullet Assess and deliver medical care to casualties
bullet Move and lift casualties
bullet Evaluate the need for oxygen and artificial ventilation and establish and maintain an airway
bullet Undertake initial emergency medical assessment and comprehensive examination of a casualty, document results
bullet Assist the casualty with self administration of medications within the role and responsibilities of an emergency medical technician
bullet Recognise and manage respiratory and cardiovascular emergencies, diabetes and altered mental states and allergies
bullet Prevent, identify and manage poisoning and overdose medical emergencies
bullet Prevent, identify and manage environmental emergencies
bullet Recognise and manage bleeding and shock and soft tissue injuries.
bullet Recognise, manage musculoskeletal injuries, head, spinal injuries
bullet Undertake advanced airway management
bullet Undertake intravenous fluid therapy under medical direction.
bullet Manage multiple casualty incidents using triage.
